This week I started my new journey at beehiiv as a Customer Support Specialist. My early feelings have been—I’m impressed. beehiiv is barely 2 years old and the maturity level of the product is phenomenal. Keep reading for deeper thoughts on beehiiv the product.

The design editor takes some getting used

When getting started designing your landing/home pages, the first nuance I noticed was that your edits are “live” or “liveish”. There’s no refresh button, you don’t have to save and edit for it to update. However, you do have to click out of the field that you are editing. This was, I don’t want to say jarring, but certainly close to jarring. Generally you would expect the editor to be using a controlled form, and re-rendering the virtual dom as you are making changes in the form field.

This is not a hurdle or an impediment, but just a nuance of the beehiiv platform that you will have to get used to. Otherwise the design editor is robust and intuitive, and a pleasure to use.

There is so much to do and fiddle with and update and customize. Do yourself a favor and dedicate real time to setup. Get your mixed gas and your weight belt ready because you really want to dive DEEP into beehiiv before launching. You will be doing yourself a madness if you think “I’ll set this up over a Sunday evening.”

Don’t get me wrong, it’s totally possibly to get a lovely newsletter set up and out the door in a few hours. But my feeling is to truly get the most out of beehiiv and therefore see the most return, you’ll want to take your time and click and click all the buttons, twist all the knobs. That will take some time, so be gracious with yourself, don’t rush it, open that nice malbec you’ve been saving and enjoy the process.
